Goji Berry Recipes

When we first started eating goji berries in our household, we ate them mainly straight out of the bag, and occasionally used them to flavor water or tea.

Over the past several weeks, I tested more than ten unique recipes that call for goji berries. I made so many batches of different goji berry recipes that I started to feel like the Barefoot Contessa, minus the butter, mayonnaise, and sour cream!

What follows are the goji berry recipes that received the highest grades from my family members. I hope that you enjoy them as much as we do!

Goji Berry Smoothie Recipe

Soak goji berries for at least one hour. Combine 1 cup soaked goji berries with 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen), 2 bananas (fresh or frozen), 2 teaspoons cocoa powder, and 1-2 cups almond milk or the water that you soaked the goji berries with in a strong blender and blend until smooth. The quantities listed here produce approximately 2 large servings.

Pomo-Goji Berry Juice Recipe

Soak goji berries for at least one hour. Combine 1 cup of soaking water, goji berries, 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, and 1 cup of pure pomegranate juice (widely available in grocery stores) in a strong blender and blend until well homogenized. This recipe produces 1 large serving of a refreshing, antioxidant-rich juice that is tart and sweet at the same time. If pomegranate juice is unavailable, use an extra cup of soaking water to make this juice.

Goji Berry Trail Mix Recipe

Combine 1 cup goji berries, 1/2 cup raw chocolate nibs, 1 cup raw pecans, 1 cup raw walnuts, and 1/2 cup coconut shreds. Give it a good mix and store this delicious trail mix in an air-tight glass container.

If you want to make a delicious energy bar, crush the pecans and walnuts by hand or food processor, add two tablespoons of honey to the mix, give it all a good stir with a spoon, then press mixture into a lightly oiled (olive oil) baking dish or tray. Put in refrigerator one hour to set, then cut into squares.

Oatmeal with Goji Berries Recipe

Bring two cups of water and a handful of goji berries to a boil. Simmer with lid on for 5 minutes to soften berries. Add 1 cup of oatmeal, give it a good stir, then cook over low heat with the lid on. After oatmeal is cooked, take off heat, add a handful of chocolate nibs, half a cup of almond milk or unsweetened soy milk, give it all a good stir, and enjoy while it's hot. The quantities listed here make approximately 1 large serving.

Hello Dr Ben! Greetings to you on this fine day! Just wanted to mention that the gogi berries we ordered from you are a hit in our family. Our teenagers like them and we like the fact they are so full of nutritional value. We toss them into salads, along with raisins and flax seeds to give a fabulous variety to "regular garden salads." Keep up the great work, keep sharing your life experiences, and keep questing to provide valuable health information to a culture who needs it desperately........As I've started telling those who still believe in "conventional medicine and the pills they push" (oh sure - emergency fix-er-uppers are grand) but in any case, just take a look at these "sick-care providers. (I refuse to call it health care, because if it were, mainstream medicine would teach joe public the importance of eating to live, not living to eat - and most doctors don't even touch upon this topic.) After making the mistake of letting a bag of gogi berries bake in the heat of my car, which sacrificed their flavor, I made an infusion with them (like an herbal tea) and then blended the leftover plump, moist berries with some lime juice, water and orange juice to create an apple sauce-like treat. It came out tasty. It would probably be even better blended with a fresh orange or apple.
