Fasting Program
Daily Monitoring
After going through a comprehensive health evaluation with Dr. Kim, you may choose to begin a water-only fast, a fresh juice diet, or an unprocessed, whole food diet, as deemed appropriate for your health status and goals. Each day begins with a visit from Dr. Kim, who relies on vital signs, urine testing, pertinent diagnostic exams, and blood studies when necessary in monitoring each person's progress. Blood studies are used infrequently and are not mandatory.
Education
We place emphasis on empowering each of our guests with knowledge and skills that are helpful in consistently making healthful food and lifestyle choices when they return home. Included in our education program are talks on a variety of health matters, food preparation tips, stress management techniques and individualized exercise and stretching programs. Each guest receives personalized dietary and lifestyle recommendations upon completion of our program.
What to Bring
You may rest in your room, our comfortable living room, or in our spacious backyard. A large cedar deck spanning the entire length of our private yard provides an ideal place to rest with plenty of sunshine and fresh air. Some of our rooms have private balconies that also provide ideal places to rest comfortably outdoors.
Our living room is equipped with a television and VCR for viewing of health-related videos and movies. Also found in our living room is a computer with internet access and a small library featuring a diverse collection of health-related books and magazines. You are welcome to bring videos and movies to view during your stay.
Please feel free to also bring books, music, headphones, writing materials, and anything else that you find enjoyable that is not too energy consuming. Please bring household slippers, comfortable walking shoes, pajamas, a bathrobe, and warm, casual clothing. In order to promote a clean and comfortable environment, shoes are not worn in the house.
Breaking Your Fast
We break each person's fast with foods that are most appropriate for his or her health status and goals. Whenever possible, we use locally grown, organic produce. Many of our guests respond well to breaking their fasts with a combination of freshly pressed fruit and vegetable juices. After one to two days of drinking juices, whole foods are introduced, beginning with raw fruits and vegetables, and moving on to steamed vegetables, vegetable soups, and other nutritionally dense foods. We place considerable emphasis on observing how each guest responds to each meal, ready to make adjustments if necessary.
Visitors and Phone Calls
You may have visitors on any day of the week, from 10 am to 7 pm. You are welcome to use phone cards that the clinic provides at cost to make calls on an outgoing line that is designated for use by our guests.
Chiropractic and Acupuncture Services
In addition to our fasting and health education program, we offer chiropractic and acupuncture services.
Dr. Kim's approach to chiropractic treatment involves restoring optimal range of motion in the spine and extremities using conservative stretching and mobilization techniques. When clinically indicated, he will incorporate appropriate soft tissue techniques and/or neuroanatomically-oriented acupuncture into his treatments to correct chronic muscle and soft tissue challenges. Dr. Kim places emphasis on teaching people how to become more aware of their body movements and postures and to consistently engage in activities and perform individually tailored exercises that promote self-reliance for physical well-being.
