Welcome to our website!

My name is Ben Kim. I live with my wife and two sons in Ontario, Canada within an hour's drive of my grandmother, parents, sisters, and a large clan of aunts, uncles, and cousins who I am immensely grateful to call family.

I began my career in health care in 1997 running the northern-most chiropractic clinic in North America in a First Nations Alaskan village called Barrow. From there, I practiced in northern California where I completed an residential internship in water fasting supervision.

I started this site back in March of 2003 when I established a residential fasting and chiropractic clinic in Barrie, Ontario. What began as a way to continue to support those who stayed at my fasting clinic turned into a site through which I am extremely privileged to share all that I have learned and continue to learn about self health care - I'm honoured to note that in 2016, our site welcomed more than 5 million unique visitors with more than 120 million page views.

Throughout 20 years of private practice in the United States and Canada, my guiding principle has always been simple: treat and advise everyone as I do my own family.

While I have a lot of respect for allopathic and alternative health care practices, I believe that through our daily choices, all of us have a great deal of power over the level of health we experience.

If you've been searching for answers to your health concerns, you might be feeling confused by the conflicting views that exist in conventional and alternative medical circles on how to address different health challenges.

As you look through this site, I hope that you gain clarity on your concerns, and confidence in your ability to support your health with your daily choices. I don't have solutions for every health challenge, but I do feel through my years of study and practice, I have learned what the most important determinants of health are - you'll find articles and videos on these determinants throughout this site, all available for free to anyone in the world with internet access.

Through my years of practice and consulting, I have helped enough people recover from severe and chronic health challenges to know that there is always reason to hope for and expect improvement with your health if you apply the principles found throughout this site.

In case you are curious about my educational background, I studied at the University of Toronto before going on to earn my Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1997 at the National University of Health Sciences in Illinois. I graduated summa cum laude and class salutatorian, and more importantly, I walked away from my years of formal education with an excellent foundation in basic and clinical sciences - it's a foundation that I largely credit for any help that I have given to patients, clients, and readers of this site over the years.

I'm also a graduate of the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program at McMaster University.

The ongoing running of this site wouldn't be possible without Rebecca, our Client Care Manager, a wonderful team at our warehouse in Arizona, and my family members who contribute to daily operations on multiple levels.

As this website has evolved, and as our readership has grown into the millions, I have been fortunate to correspond with countless thoughtful people from many walks of life. I hope that you draw as much inspiration from this site as I have received from our readers.

Please note that as of January, 2017, after 20 years of being in private practice, I am enormously grateful to devote all of my working hours to this site and consulting for people where I feel I can on a pro bono basis. Though no longer in practice as a chiropractor and acupuncturist, I am as passionate as ever about caring for oneself and improving quality of life through our daily choices. I will always be with board certification with the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners in the States and the Canadian Chiropractic Board Examiners, but I am grateful to be completely free of obligations to any state or provincial body.

I just have to tell you how amazing I think you are! Your articles are so thoughtful and informative. Your recent article on "toxic people" was so right on! I just moved on from a neighbor/friend who is in her 60's and has adult temper tantrums (I walk on egg shells as I never know what might set her off). I decided since I don't have this problem with anyone else and never have that it was best to move on from this person. Such a relief not being around that energy.

Hi Dr Kim,
Thank you so much for your generous advice and wonderful videos. I have read your pages about tendinitis but I am still struggling after 18 months with problems in both arms, golfers and tennis elbow.It is so painful and I feel like I am getting nowhere with it healing. Do you have any further suggestions please to stop the pain so I can begin the strengthening exercises, Many thanks, Jo

Hi Jo,

If you have given the area adequate rest, if you have worn an appropriate brace during activities that require use of that arm, and if you have tried eccentric strengthening exercises with a flex-bar, then one other option to look at is platelet-rich plasma therapy. You can read about it here:

I enjoyed your article on posterior shoulder capsule mobility stretches. I have found the Alexander Technique to be the best approach to release unconscious patterns of tension that block mobility. I have also heard that Felenkreis is an effective holistic mobility practice. Perhaps you might look into either for a potential article.

I found your site and information, here in Albuquerque, where I had build some non-profit organization, with international business leaders.
